What's new in version 8.0
- Customizable keyboard mappings.
- VST effect support.
- ASIO audio driver support.
- Data window scrubbing.
- Application scripting with an integrated Script Editor
window.
- Batch processing and file-format conversion via the Batch
Converter script.
- Ability to save a project path in a rendered file and
edit a rendered file's source project.
- You can now choose the Ruler Format and Level Format for
data displayed in the Statistics window.
- You can copy the contents of the Statistics window to
the clipboard for easy comparison of multiple files.
- Integration with CD Architect.
- Macromedia Flash (.swf) format importing. (ActionScript,
motion video, and audio are not supported.)
- You can use the Display tab in the Preferences dialog
to adjust the icon color saturation and icon tinting.
- HDV™ project and rendering templates (AVI, MPEG-2,
and Windows Media Video) have been added.
To open or render HDV video, you'll need the CineForm ConnectHD
tool, which you can download from our Web
site. For CineForm support, click here.
*HDV and HDV logo are trademarks of Sony Corporation and
Victor Company of Japan, Limited (JVC).
- If you have a USB SmartMedia reader device installed on
your PC, you may experience problems when you attempt to
access your CD drive from Sound Forge for extracting
audio or burning CDs. This is due to an error in the SmartMedia
reader driver. Using the Unplug or Eject Hardware Wizard
to remove the reader should allow Sound Forge to
function normally.
- If you click the Custom button after
choosing a file format template in the Batch Converter,
the template name displayed will not match the selected
template. Although the save settings will be correct, Default
Template is displayed on the Save Options dialog
and the Save tab. If you want to verify the template settings
in the Custom Template window, simply choose the template
again after closing the Custom Template window, and the
correct template name will be displayed.
- 24-bit Windows Media Audio files will always be read as
16-bit files in Windows 2000. This is a limitation of the
operating system. You can render 24-bit WMA files, but if
you want to read these files as 24-bit audio, copy them
to a Windows XP machine.
- If the cursor in the Script Editor window disappears,
click outside the Script Editor window, and then return
to editing.
- The Batch Converter will not save MP3 files unless the
MP3 plug-in has been registered. To register the plug-in,
choose Save As from the Sound Forge File
menu. In the Save As dialog, choose MP3 Audio from
the Save As Type drop-down list, and then
click Custom. The Custom Template dialog
will display the number of evaluation encodes that remain.
Click the Register button to register the
plug-in.
- Project5 plug-ins cause an exception at the end of
processing. Previewing through these plug-ins with the
Loop Playback button selected will mask
this exception.
If you use a plug-in chain that includes plug-ins that produce tails, such as
Simple Delay, the tails
will not be generated if those plug-ins occur after the Project5 plug-ins.
To
avoid
this, place the Project5 plug-ins at the end of the plug-in chain or add
tail-generating
effects
in separated processing passes.
- Uninstalling Sound Forge 7.0 can cause the Sound Forge
Volume and Pan plug-in to become unregistered in Sound
Forge 8.0. You can run the Register Sony DirectX Audio
Plug-Ins migration tool to reregister the plug in (Start
> Programs > Sony > Utilities > Migration Tools > Register
Sony DirectX Audio Plug-Ins).
- Copy-protected ATRAC audio files may fail to preview correctly or may open as silence.
